Texas Republicans So Patriotic That They Want Out?

Published by WhiteNotMuslimMalcomX at 2:03 pm under Secession Edit This

Alright, so I know I’m playing into some not-so-subtle left-wing conspiracy because this poll came from Daily Kos, but jeez louise!

A new poll from the Daily Kos shows that Texas Republicans are actually split down the middle on whether they should stay in the United States or become an independent nation, 48-48, and on whether they approve of Rick Perry saying they might have to leave the USA, they approve 51-48.

In this poll, 39% of those polled were Republicans, which means 48% of them makes up 18.72% of the general population.  Now when the general population was polled about secession, 35% of Texans supported secession, meaning 16.28% of the Texas population is not Republican and supports secession.  In fact, the poll shows that 40% of independents and 15% of Democrats in Texas support secession.

So although the Republicans have the highest concentration of secessionists in Texas, I think this is more of a Texas thing than a Republican thing (at least I hope).  Texas was one of two states that were independent nations before becoming states, and Texas has always been considerably more militaristic than Hawaii.  They have a strong tradition of secessionism, and so I guess it stands to reason that when things get bad a lot of Texans would want out.

It’s not good.  I hate the collectivist bent we’ve been going in, personal liberty isn’t anywhere close to getting the respect it deserves, but I am a patriot in good times and in bad.  I disapprove of the actions of the government, but America is not just her government.  I am somewhat of the position love it or leave it, if they want out, don’t let the door bump your ass on the way out.   That goes for liberals and conservatives.
